Amalia Nur Wahyuni
My name is Amalia Nur Wahyuni, I am 30 years old. I am coming from Bogor, Indonesia but currently I live in Bremen, Germany, I’ve been living in Germany since Mai 2021. I came to Germany because I was an Au Pair (Youth who lives in the Host Family to learn the culture, language and support the parents by taking care of the children). I got the chance to become an Au Pair through YCM (Yayasan Cipta Mandiri) and Gesine (Founder of YCM).
I was in YCM during junior school in 2010 because I wanted to speak English at that time and YCM provides that opportunity. YCM provides not only English, but also other skills such as leadership, communication, problem solving, open-mindedness, integrity, discipline and big dreams, which I hardly find in school. Since I first joined YCM, I have so many dreams; one of them is to study abroad, especially in Germany. After graduating from high school, I decided to continue my studies in University to do my diploma majoring accounting, which took 3 years and after that I went to another university to continue my bachelor’s degree for another 2 years. My family could not afford the cost of study, so I got financial support from Die Brücke (German Women’s Association in Jakarta) and in the time of giving back I have to volunteer at YCM, which YCM is also supported by Die Brücke. I taught the children and youth in YCM for almost 4 years, besides teaching and studying at university; I went to Goethe Institute to learn German as I would like to study in Germany. I got the financial support from Gesine as I told her about my dream. After I finished my studies and got my German certificate at B1 level, I got a job offer from Germany in a kindergarten in Hamburg from Gesine’s friend who knows about my experience of teaching children, but unfortunately my visa was refused. This was not going to stop me from achieving my dream, Gesine had offered me another opportunity to become an au pair in Bremen.
After being an au pair for 1 year, I attended Nursing – Vocational School in Bremen for 3 years. During the vocational school I learned about health, taking care of patients, giving them medicine and helping them by dressing. I got another chance to do a three-month internship at the hospital in Salzburg, Austria. This internship is one of the learning methods offered by my school. Through this internship I received a Europass, which I can use for work within the European Union. I finally graduated in June 2025 and now work as a nurse in a senior residence.
