A Life Without Borders
Anton Phillips believes that education is the greatest adventure. Originally from Sydney, Australia, Anton has spent a lifetime traveling the world with a suitcase full of books and a heart for service. From the classrooms of South Korea and Myanmar to the communities of Rwanda and Peru, his journey has been driven by one goal: helping people find their voice through the English language.
Before joining us at YCM, Anton spent 16 years teaching in Brunei Darussalam and worked extensively training teachers for the Cambridge CELTA program. He has taught everyone from adult migrants in Australia to students in vocational colleges, learning along the way that every learner has a unique story to tell.
Bringing Passion to Bogor
Anton’s path to Indonesia began through the Australian Volunteers Program. He was drawn to Yayasan Cipta Mandiri (YCM) because he shared our belief that education should be about more than just textbooks—it should be about empowerment.
Currently, Anton serves as a Tutors Trainer and Mentor, helping our local tutors develop their skills. His teaching philosophy is simple but powerful: “Teachers should talk less, and students should speak more.” For Anton, English is a tool for connection and creativity. He works hard to ensure that every student at YCM feels confident enough to open new doors for their own future.
A Vision of Hope
When he isn’t mentoring our team, you might find Anton cycling through the local area, playing a match of tennis, or enjoying a quiet coffee and a good conversation. He is a firm believer that progress happens when we support one another.
His dream for YCM is to see the foundation continue growing as a safe, inspiring space where the young people of Bogor can gain the skills they need to change their lives. Anton’s presence at YCM is a reminder that when we share our knowledge, we don’t just teach—we build a brighter future together.
